Fabrication Assistant Position
Birdstudio is an art house and fabrication studio in Germantown, Philadelphia. We specialize in one-of-a-kind fabrications for residential and commercial clients. In recent years, jobs have included a 20-foot MDF engraved Abraham Lincoln feature wall, a reproduction of 4 Adirondack chairs in teak, a faux brick wall finish for luxury office space, and pin-mounted aluminum lettering for Suraya.
We’re looking for an individual with shop experience who knows materials, prides themselves on precision, and has a collaborative spirit. Specific skills we’re looking for are woodworking, electrical work, metalsmithing and machine work, and CAD design.
Robust knowledge of a variety of production and fabrication techniques. Familiarity with practices related to current design and art practice- including: fabrication, methodology and processes; experience and knowledge of working with a wide variety of materials.
Ability to work independently with direction and take ownership of projects
Reliable, timely, and a good communicator
At Birdstudio, you’ll be working under the expert supervision of owner Zack Bird, who is a specialist in a wide range of techniques, from fine painting to industrial design and everything in between. The collaborative environment will give you the chance to learn from the experts here, while honing your skills on a variety of projects.
In your application, please note if you have any of the following skills (a bonus but not required!): CAD design, Illustrator, Photoshop, graphic design, photography, faux finishing, painting, plastering, or hand lettering.
This is a contract position that is job-based. Large jobs are scheduled weeks or even months in advance, while smaller jobs may have a shorter turn around.
Pay starting at $20/hr
