Recently, Bird Studio was excited to open our doors for an Open Studio Night!

A huge thank you to all who attended and brightened up our studio with the smiles that were peeking out from behind those masks. After a time of isolation, it was energizing to interact in person.

This gathering was a chance to showcase what we’ve been working on in recent months to our current designers and makers. We provided a unique opportunity to tour the studio and see a wide variety of exciting new projects.

One large project has been our 30-foot mural for a residential client’s home property. This wooded scene depicts the owner’s land, imagined in an American Regionalism style that Zack developed specifically for this project. It references the palette and modalities of itinerant painting, and further influences from block-printed European wallpaper.

It’s a truly one-of-a-kind piece, and we’re thankful to the client and JAGR Projects for their trust in our vision.

This dining room mural is drawn from the client’s surrounding property, creating an interesting interplay between the real and painted landscape. It’s not a current reproduction, but rather an imagined past in which the property had been visited by an itinerant painter. The scene references the property’s historic apple trees, existing stone structures, and domestic animals. As the eye connects to the imagined horizon line, it expands the sense of space in the room, not to mention gives it a beautiful tableau.
